What Is Breathwork? A Beginner’s Guide to Conscious Breathing
Share
Breathing happens automatically—inhale, exhale, repeat. But when we bring awareness to it, breathwork becomes a powerful tool for relaxation, clarity, and balance. It’s the practice of using intentional breathing techniques to influence the mind and body, helping to regulate emotions, release tension, and restore presence.
Most of us take shallow breaths without realizing it, often reflecting stress and busyness. By shifting our breath—slowing it down, deepening it, or following a rhythm—we create a direct line to our nervous system. Some common breathwork techniques include:
- Diaphragmatic breathing (deep belly breaths) for calm and relaxation
- Box breathing for focus and balance
- Alternate nostril breathing to promote clarity and ease
- Equal Parts breathing for balance and mindfulness
Breathwork isn’t about forcing anything—it’s about reconnecting with a natural process we often overlook. If you’re new to the practice, start with something simple, like equal parts breathing—inhaling and exhaling for the same count. You can follow along with our 7-minute guided breathwork session. The more you practice, the more you’ll notice its effects—not just in the moment, but in the way you move through life.
